An Orthopantomogram (OPG) is a panoramic X-ray of the upper and lower jaws that captures all teeth and the surrounding bony structures in a single image. It is the most commonly used dental radiograph for comprehensive evaluation of the teeth, bone levels, temporomandibular joints (TMJ), sinuses and the mandible.
At Dr. Anand's Diagnostic, OPG is performed on a dedicated panoramic X-ray unit using digital acquisition, delivering high-resolution images with minimal radiation dose. Reports are provided with same-day turnaround and are widely accepted by dental surgeons, orthodontists and maxillofacial surgeons.
Digital Cephalogram X-Ray Analysis
OPG is used for assessment of dental caries, periodontal bone loss, impacted teeth (especially wisdom teeth), orthodontic treatment planning, dental implant assessment, jaw fractures, TMJ evaluation and detection of cysts or tumours of the jaw. Digital images are available for sharing with your dentist.
A referral from your dentist, orthodontist or doctor is recommended. However, OPG can also be done on self-referral. Please bring any previous dental X-rays for comparison.
You will stand or sit in front of the OPG machine. A chin rest positions your head and you bite gently on a small plastic tab. The X-ray arm rotates around your head in about 15–20 seconds while you stay still.
Yes. The radiation dose from an OPG is very low — equivalent to a few hours of natural background radiation. Pregnant women should inform us beforehand so appropriate precautions can be taken.
