Overview
Fetal echocardiography is a detailed ultrasound study of the baby's heart performed during pregnancy, typically between 18 and 24 weeks of gestation. It provides high-resolution images of the fetal cardiac anatomy, allowing detection of structural abnormalities (congenital heart defects) that may require treatment before or after birth.
At Dr. Anand's Diagnostic, fetal echo is performed on advanced ultrasound equipment by trained fetal medicine sonographers. It is especially recommended for mothers with a family history of congenital heart disease, those with diabetes, or when a routine anomaly scan raises cardiac concerns.
What We Do
We evaluate all four cardiac chambers, valves (mitral, tricuspid, aortic and pulmonary), the great arteries (aorta and pulmonary artery), septal integrity, cardiac rhythm and overall cardiac function using 2D, M-mode and Doppler techniques.

It is recommended when there is a family history of congenital heart disease, the mother has diabetes or lupus, a routine anomaly scan shows a suspected cardiac abnormality, or the mother had exposure to certain medications or infections in early pregnancy.
Yes. Fetal echocardiography uses the same harmless ultrasound waves as a routine obstetric scan. It does not involve radiation and is completely safe for the mother and baby.
A fetal echo typically takes 45–60 minutes, depending on fetal position and complexity of the examination. A detailed report is provided by the reporting physician.
