Echocardiography

Echocardiography

Transthoracic echocardiography (Echo) for detailed assessment of heart structure, valves and function — a cornerstone of cardiac diagnosis.

Overview

Echocardiography uses ultrasound waves to create real-time images of the heart — its chambers, valves, walls and major blood vessels. At Dr. Anand's Diagnostic, 2D/M-mode Echo with colour flow Doppler and tissue Doppler imaging is performed and reported by experienced cardiologists.

Echo is essential for diagnosing conditions such as valvular heart disease, cardiomyopathy, congenital heart defects, pericardial effusion and assessing cardiac function before and after surgery. It is completely safe, non-invasive.

Frequently Asked Questions

No special preparation is required for a routine transthoracic echo. Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing. You may eat and take medications as usual before the test.

Echo shows cardiac structure and function but does not directly visualise coronary artery blockages. However, it can identify regional wall motion abnormalities that suggest coronary artery disease. TMT or CT coronary angiography may be recommended for further assessment.
